Area Girl Scouts To Raise Funds In Bottle Drive The Penn-York Council of Girl Scouts is planning a Bottle Drive in Sayre, Athens, and South Waverly to raise funds to supplement the 1965 Fund Drive. Bradford County's share of the 1965 budget needed to carry out the Girl Scout program is $12,798, of which only $4,848 has been raised, with 628 of this secured from Sayre, Athens and South Waverly. It is estimated that administrative costs to carry out the program average about $10 per girl above the cost to the Scout and her parents. The amount raised through independent fund drives, chests and united funds in the four- county Council pays for maintaining an office with professional and clerical staff, training volunteers, troop organization, program services and camp administration, including the rental for Camp Brule for a two-week established camp each summer.
For the Bottle Drive Mrs. Cecil Munn of Athens and Mrs. Edwin Waltman of Sayre are in charge of organizing the Girl Scouts and Kenneth Mead of Athens will have charge of distributing the bottles. The Sayre drive will be conducted Saturday with the girls meeting at 9:30 at the Central Grade School to organize for a house to house canvass for all refundable bottles. Drivers will cruise the Sayre area to pick up bottles from Scouts and deliver them to the Scout rooms.
The drive in Athens and South Waverly will be conducted next Monday. Residents are asked to put refundable bottles on the curb or porches where they can be seen. Bottles will be picked up starting about 9:00 in the morning. Mrs. Munn and Mrs.
Waltman joined in urging Valley residents to support this bottle drive. They issued a statement which reads, "We know you all realize the benefits Scouting gives to the youth of your community and hope you will help us to continue the program and make it available to more girls.
