The 26 best spots for glamping in Western Cape (2024)

The Baths Natural Hot Springs is a tranquil resort located near Citrusdal, offering outdoor hot spring pools and private jacuzzis for a romantic getaway. Nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains and orange plantations, the rustic resort dates back to 1739 and provides an ultimate escape for campers with indigenous trees and a mountain stream. While the accommodation is situated on top of a hill with narrow roads requiring driving everywhere, the spacious chalets offer everything needed for a comfortable stay.

The Baths catered for our every need while offering peacefulness and tranquility. It was an excellent experience having with exceptional facilities, friendly staff and pools for all weather. It tops all the other places my wife and I have been to.My wife is not easily pleased, but she for once enjoyed herself. Happy wife=happy life.

Third visit with the family. Absolutely love being here, so beautiful and peaceful. Loved our private jacuzzi with soothing piped hot spring water, relaxing and watching the sunrise. Hiked up along the mountain trails with fantastic views. Can't wait to come back again.

Our time there was nothing short of exceptional, From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the impeccable cleanliness and neatness of the entire facility (not a spider or web to be seen anywhere. It is evident that the team goes above and beyond to maintain high standards of cleanliness, which greatly enhanced our overall enjoyment.I must admit, prior to our visit, I came across a few negative reviews here. However, I am delighted that I did not let those reviews sway my decision. Our personal experience was far beyond our expectations, and we were thrilled that we trusted our instincts

They have Chalets, Hotel type rooms and lovely camping sites. Restaurant on site with little shop with necessities. 7 Warm rock pools, 1 Hot pool, 1 Cold Pool, 6? Jacuzzis, Poolboard, Large trampoline. As you can see lots to do for the family. Camping sites right in the middle of trees and next to warm water river. Very very nice place to be.

We were place in a spacious house as the room we had booked, had a problem! Place was way too big and very cold! Private jacuzzi on the deck was a great touch but the air outside was far too cold to make use of it. Received very little sunshine. There was also very little view from this spacious but very cold house.Apartment/flat, too which we were moved on the last day, was perfect in size, warm and had a great view. Just what we wanted.

Camped here a few weeks ago. Ablution blocks were clean and well kept. Shop and restaurant convenient and stocks most of the basics including ice and wood. Hot springs and cold water pools imaculately kept. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great hiking routes. Stunning location. Camping offers lots of shade under trees. Entire complex is well managed and run.

It was a wonderful experience. Nice and cozy. The swimming pools were nice but the hot springs were better if you don't mind the uphill walk. If they build another bathroom facility near the entrance of the camp then it will be a big bonus, but overall the best camping spot by far

We had a lovely time at The Baths Natural Hot Springs in September. We arrived early and our room was already ready! They were very accommodating when we asked to stay an additional night. Hike was lovely too. Peaceful - great that they don't accept day visitors. We definitely felt well-rested after our stay

Had such a stunning weekend at The Baths. The chalets are perfectly located and so beautiful. The jacuzzi was hot and ready when we arrived. There is so much on offer here. Will definitely be back

Camping at The Baths in Citrusdal.....where the pace of life is just right!Just a quick weekend away to a place that's been on our list for ages....peace and quiet, incredible natural hot springs, mountain streams, blue skies and sunshine, waterfalls and time away from the busyness....a super chilled and relaxing weekend at a perfect winter camping spot.

We had relaxing weekend at the baths. It's so peaceful. We stayed in the Olhsen Building, upstairs chalet. This unit has its own private courtyard, including Jacuzzi.Definitely will be going again.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐We recently stayed at The Baths Natural Hot Springs for our wedding anniversary, and it truly exceeded our expectations. The accommodation was fantastic, with a well-equipped apartment that included its own jacuzzi fed with hot mineral water from the spring. The staff were incredibly friendly and made our stay even more enjoyable. The on-site restaurant is definitely worth a visit. We highly recommend the mussels as a starter, and the pan-fried calamari was so delicious that we went back the next day for another helping. Don't miss out on the Ginger Square co*cktail – it made our walk back to the apartment even more fun!Although our apartment had self-catering facilities, we only used them for making coffee because the restaurant took care of all our meals. The hot pools are a must-visit. The warm mineral water from the springs did wonders for our aches and pains, leaving us feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.Overall, The Baths Natural Hot Springs provided a perfect blend of relaxation and culinary delight, making our anniversary celebration truly special. We can't wait to return!

Overall a very beautiful place. The only issue we had was that our accommodation was at the top of a hill with many narrow and winding roads which meant that we needed to drive everywhere we needed to be with limited ability to walk. The roads were very narrow, and getting to the actual place proved to be a real mission. The commute felt like quite the deal breaker. The rooms are spectacular, spacious, had everything you could need and the jacuzzi was incredible. The food at the restaurant was very average.

We were 11 adventure motorcycle riders visiting the resort late in September 2022. The place is awesome! We relaxed in the pools until load shedding puts a spanner in the works. Staff is friendly and professional. There is really nothing we can complain about. Keep it up Team at the Baths, we will definitely see you again!

The Baths offers a variety of accommodation choices from chalets to flats to camping sites. Some chalets and flats have private Jacuzzis as a bonus. Very tranquil place to unwind and recharge especially in the hot water pools. Only negative for me, and this is my personal choice, I would have given rooms 5 * if it had a TV just for the evening when things quieten down before bed. Other than that, a place that must be visited.

We stayed in one of the Olsen units with a private hot tub and braai area, and I mean private, you close and lock a door and the whole outside section is walled odd and built into the mountain... our toddler enjoyed the open space and swimming in the pools. The hiking trails and walks were more intense than we thought, you will end up carrying your little one.... The restaurant staff were friendly and helpful, dinner was very tasty. The only down side that I can think of is that the jungle gym and larger play area is all the way down at the entrance and quite a walk from the rooms, pools and restaurant...unkess you stay closer and in a tent or caravan...The walk back up the hill becomes tough after a while....especially when you have to carry an extra 15 kg. Will definetly be visiting again!

This is our go to place whenever we want to go away with family or friends. So relaxing and peaceful. Whether it’s camping or chalets the experience is always memorable. Facilities are always clean, staff is friendly and helpful and always try their best to accommodate you in every way.

Well talk about food for the soul, the perfect getaway from the city rush. Whether you're into comfort (in their lovely chalets) or roughing it up a bit, this is the perfect getaway. The hot pools are a spiritual experience, and as nature lovers we spent 24 hours a day outdoors. Thank you to the staff who were there for anything we needed. We will be back!

Camping at the bath is very relaxing. It is nice and quiet, right next to a river. We camped at site 13, which can easily fit 3× 4-man tents, and right across the ablutions. If you camp at 12 and 14, you will walk at least 30 m to the nearest ablutions. The heated pool and rock pools and awesome! Will definitely be back.

Had a great anniversary night there with hubby. Decent rooms, nice restaurant, great rock and swimming pools. The only negative thing I will say is that the convenience store there is really pricey (paying for the convenience ofcourse) so make sure to pack enough snacks and toiletries, and there were too many people there (my hubby and I are the reclusive/ loner type). Other than that, it was great!

Mikayla E — Google review

Beautiful setting. We've been here before. This time our accommodation was a bit impractically set up but adequate nonetheless. Luckily The Baths is all about its hot springs, jacuzzis and nature so not much time was spent indoors.

A haven of tranquility and 5 star facilities... we stayed in Sandolien which has the most superb view across the valley and is completely equipped for everything you might want to cook. The swimming pools areas are clean and have ample loungers to enjoy the sunshine after your hot or cold dip.. and the small hot pools up in the mountain kloof are rustic and secluded. The Restaurant staff were always eager and helpful and the food was tasty.. fresh and reasonably priced. The menu is a little limited.

A wonderful hot water mineral resort. A mixture of Victorian buildings and ultra modern chalets with 25 camping/caravan sites along the stream.Been in operation since 1745, yes you read that correctly.Bath hot swimming pool, rock pools on the mountain fed directly from the source and a cold water swimming pool.Situated in a valley in nature - absolutely beautiful. We camp here at least once a year. Have been coming here for over 35 years.

Amazing place, we stayed in the Melkbos unit. It is an insanely large stunning home with everything you need.Reception was friendly, and we enjoyed the heated swimming pool at night.

Reinhard S — Google review

We took the camping option. You still get all the access throughout the park. Camping sites are clean, tidy and equipped with electricity. Ablution blocks are kept clean too. Baths are always warm and the water feels like silk. I've never swam so much before. It was great ❤️

Recommended for a relaxing break. We camped with friends for 2 nights. Days were spent wallowing in the hot spring and evenings around the braai fire, followed by another dip in the hot water pool before bed. There are 23 camping stands with electricity. All stands are level with hard pack gravel. No grass. Many self-catering accommodation options to choose from aswell. Number of total guests (campers + self-caterers) are limited to what the site can sustain. No day visitors allowed. Never felt crowded throughout the weekend.

This is literally the best place to be if you need a break from the rat race. The location is perfect, the weather is beautiful, the resort itself is well maintained. Camping here just hits different. Best times to book is in the week and be prepared to roast in the summer months. Pools are well maintained as well as ablutions. This place must be experienced.

I had a really enjoyable stay. The highlight is the jacuzzi in the bathroom. However, the unit did not have a tv, but it did have wifi that did not work during loadshedding, and your cellphone didn't have a signal either, so the pools were perfect during these times. They provide you with a portable, rechargeable light. The room was perfect for my needs, located on the ground floor, close to everything. All your cleaning requirements for the unit is provided. Bring your own towels for the pool as they do not provide fresh towels every day.I suggest you put your sealed bags of wood where it can't be carried off as ours took a walk never to be seen again. The braai area gets cleaned every day. There is a pool table and table tennis board in the hall on your way to the warm water pods.Jacuzzi House has about 5 different size jacuzzi's, and there is a restaurant & tuck shop.I would recommend this place, but be sure to ask about the small things when booking.(We just assumed there would be a tv, for instance)

Happy campers. When our kids weren't in the pools they were playing in the river or on the jungle gym. We will definitely come again.Friendly suggestion to management:Put up more 'No Smoking' signs. A group of adults were smoking so much by the pools that I had to take my children away to another pool.

We were a group of 6 camping at the The Baths. We had site 24, a nice big site. It can probably take a bigger group but only 6 on a site is allowed. The ablution areas are kept beautifully clean, staff regularly clean up. The staff are professional and friendly. We had lunch at McGregor restaurant, the food was tasty and well presented. Also well priced. Overall, from booking to leaving we cannot complain about a thing. We went on a hike, Beautiful place, surroundings are stunning. It was so peaceful and just what we needed.
