FROM MID 20S TO 81 YEARS OLD. WE’RE HERE THIS MORNING TO TALK ABOUT OPERATION SUMMER SENTINEL. MONTHS OF PLANNING LEADING TO YUBA COUNTY’S FIRST UNDERCOVER CHILD PREDATOR STING OPERATION. A LOT OF THESE PEOPLE WILL SHOW UP THINKING THEY’RE ABOUT TO HAVE SEXUAL CONTACT WITH A CHILD, AND INSTEAD THEY’RE MET WITH ESSENTIALLY A SWAT TEAM COMING OUT THE DOOR TO ARREST THEM. THE THREE DAY OPERATION BROUGHT MOST OF THE 14 SUSPECTS FROM OUTSIDE THE COUNTY VIA DIFFERENT PLATFORMS, WHERE INVESTIGATORS WERE PRETENDING TO BE CHILDREN. 13 YEARS OF AGE AND YOUNGER. ANYWHERE THAT THERE’S A POSSIBILITY TO CHAT, THAT’S, YOU KNOW WHAT THEY TARGET, WHETHER IT BE VIDEO GAMES OR CHAT ROOMS. SO ANY TIME THAT YOUR CHILD IS INTERACTING WITH SOMEBODY THAT THEY CAN’T SEE YOU NEED TO TAKE NOTE OF THAT. AMONG THE ARRESTS IS MOISES CORDERO, AN EMPLOYEE WITH THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION WHO WAS ASSIGNED TO JUVENILE HALL. CORDERO HAS BEEN WORKING WITH THE AGENCY SINCE 2004. IN DIFFERENT CAPACITIES. MOST RECENTLY, A SPECIAL EDUCATION TECHNICIAN, A SPOKESPERSON WITH THE OFFICE OF EDUCATION TOLD KCRA THAT THE 39 YEAR OLD WAS PUT ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE AFTER THEY RECEIVED INFORMATION OF HIS ARREST. AND IN ALMOST EVERY OPERATION THAT’S DONE UP AND DOWN THE STATE IN CALIFORNIA, SOMEONE LIKE THIS TURNS UP SOMEONE THAT’S IN A POSITION OF TRUST. WORKING AT A JUVENILE HALL OR SOMEONE WHO’S UMPIRING LITTLE LEAGUE OR SOMEONE WHO IS A PASTOR. I MEAN, IT JUST UNFORTUNATELY, THERE IS NO PROFILE FOR A CHILD PREDATOR. AND THIS IS YUBA COUNTY’S FIRST OPERATION OF THIS KIND. AND WHILE MOST PEOPLE TRAVEL TO THEIR COUNTY, THEY’RE HOPING THAT IF ANYONE WHO IS WATCHING THIS HAS BEEN A VICTIM CAN COME FORWARD. YEAH. AS A PARENT WATCHING THIS, THIS IS QUITE DISTURBING. MARICELA, DID THE COUNTY SAY WHETHER THEY’VE RECEIVED ANY COMPLAINTS AGAINST MOISES CORDERO WHILE HE WAS WORKING AT JUVENILE HALL? YEAH. LISA. WELL, THAT WAS A QUESTION THAT WE ASKED AND WE WERE TOLD BY THE COUNTY SPOKESPERSON THAT PERSONAL MATTERS ARE CONFIDENTIAL. ALL RIGHT. MARICE

Cordero worked for the Sacramento County Office of Education since 2004, the office confirmed, most recently in a staff support position as a special education technician at Juvenile Hall. "In almost every operation that's done up and down the state in California someone like this turns up; someone that's in a position of trust working at a juvenile hall or someone who's on a little league, or someone who's a pastor. Unfortunately, there is no profile for a child predator," said Clint Curry, the Yuba County District Attorney. The office said Cordero was immediately placed on administrative leave after SCOE learned of his arrest.
