Case report of an advanced Invasive Cervical Cancer of a 22 year old woman with an advanced stage cervical cancer which we managed in 2020. This further strengthens the need to ensure early routine HPV vaccination of our children between the ages if 11-12 years and even earlier if need be. We had lots of challenges during her management, as she had difficulty accessing radiotherapy. The waiting time was about 6 months, within which the cancer progressed, and she further deteriorated.Vaccination and early identification through a robust and effective screening methods remain the only way to prevent cervical cancer. The uptake of this HPV vaccination amongst our people, who are eligible is discouraging.Cervical Cancer is highly Preventable!!Special thanks to my Bosses who carried me along during this period and decided to publish this in 2020 to help in health education and promotion towards preventing cervical cancer. If you are interested in Maternal Health, kindly look up the Mimiko's Abiye initiative in Ondo state. Ondo State was the only state in Nigeria that met theMDGindicators of reducing maternal death in the country, surpassing the goal with a 75 percent reduction.By 2016, the ondo State Govt had reduced MMR by 84.9 per cent; from 745 per 100,000 live births in 2009 to 112 per 100,000 live births in 2016 through the Abiye Initiative. The Abiye model has been recognized by the World Bank as a viable template for achieving the targets of the MDG on maternal health within the African continent. Recall that the initiative was in response to the 2008 Nigeria Demographic Health Survey (NDHS) which put Ondo State as having the worst maternal and child health indices in the southwest of Nigeria. It is imperative for us to encourage our Leaders and commissioners to revisit this model and tweak it where necessary to meet up with recent demands to reduce Maternal mortality rate.FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) Dr. Akaninyene E.
